I understand that Shaquille O'neal is a man that transcends just the NBA, but watching him attempt to play against other athletes in their own sport is extremely difficult to swallow.  Watching Shaq attempt to swing a bat was like watching a baby giraffe trying to walk.  It was hard to watch yet I could not take my eyes off of it, like a car accident.  The 7'1" O'neill attempted to out-slug Albert Pujols, out-spike beach volleyball stars Misty May and Kerri Walsh, and out-throw Ben Roethlisberger, needless to say he could not out-do anybody at anything.  The show is a half hour too long and the hosts are extremely annoying.  The most important part of the show, the actual competition, takes place in the last fifteen minutles of the show making the first 45 minutes irrelevant.  Here are some short examples of the show from Youtube:

So, rumor has it online sports betting used to be really sweet; I heard pinnaclesports was an excellent, reputable site until the US cracked down on this alleged integrity issue.  An article I read points to a 1999 study that over $380 billion is illegally wagered on betting.  Now, I am not an advocate of; well, if society does it.. then it must be right.  Because usually, I think people are pretty stupid, especially society.  However, this seems harmless to me because the money can be used in so many ways.  Think of all the tax money and money, in general, the state and the US can collect, insane.  Anyway, it appears sports betting is only allowed in several states where it was legal before a certain law was passed.

We always here about things like this happening in another town in a different county or in a different state altogether; events that have no bearing to our lives whatsoever. We walk into another school while on a basketball trip and see a glass case perched on a wall close to the entrance which has an asortment of different items arranged around a picture set in the middle. The pictures differ from town to town, sometimes it may be just a normal school picture of a student with small heirlooms hanging around the image, other times it may be a student's athletic picture and his or her varsity letter nearby. There always seems to be a small passage included that can be read, describing the person's life and passions. In every case though, the glass case holds the same meaning, a memorandum of a life taken too early.

My prayers have been answered.  The Boston Red Sox are not in the World Series.  I cannot tell you how happy I am that they lost to the Rays.  I am sick of the Sox fan.  You've had 5 years of winning and 86 years of losing, and you've become more annoying than the Yankee fan.  At least the Yankees have a real tradition of winning.  Show some humility and admit that the Rays were the better team.  It was great to see the Rays win game 7.  They really deserved it.  Aside from the collapse in game 5 they really played great baseball.  Hitting, pitching, and defense were all there. The worst to first season continues into the World Series.

            A few minutes before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon, Jerry Jones pulled off a blockbuster deal for WR Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions.  Yes, I said “blockbuster”!  Keep in mind that trades are very rare in the NFL…especially at the trade deadline!  The Cowboys gave Detroit a 1st, a 3rd, and a 6th round draft choice.  In return the Cowboys received Roy Williams and Detroit’s 7th rounder.  Did Jerry overpay?  Did Jerry panic?  That would be NO and NO!

A new found rivalry with this expansion team(well, they always will be to me) the Jacksonville Jaguars have always put up a good fight. Very Excited for this game.

 Within the first 5 drives between both teams we've seen a touchdown pass, two fumbles, and a field goal. I love this stuff! Now if only one of those fumbles hadn't been ours. Our offense and defense started out with a bang. Cutler and the O driving for 80 yards. Only to be dulled in comparison to Webster's DEVESTATING blow to Taylor making him cough up the ball. BUT, yes, with the orange and blue there is ALWAYS a but, Cutler as we have all noticed this season, has grown his required set of extremities necessary for all NFL quarteback. Balls. But with these balls come responsibility Jay. Yes, you did make one succesful sprint. But trying to do this all the time will come back to bite you in those previously mentioned balls. Like today. You just fumbled man!!! Now we're only ahead by 4! AHH!!!! You just through and interception too!! Sounds like someone's trying to step on their OWN balls. Ouch! Alright, end of the 1st quarter. I'm gonna grab a beer.

Now get me wrong, I am still very happy and very excited about the Philiies taking care of the Brew Crew and moving on to play LA in the NLCS.  However, I am weary about their offense.  Utley and Howard are both hitting under .200 and I don't even want to count how many men left on base there were this series.  I have never been a big believer that the Phils rely on the long ball to score runs.  These past four games, though, are starting to prove those critics correct.  And just by looking at this season we know what happens when those long balls turn into long outs.  The Marlins were a young, strong, talented team but could not string the hits together.  They relied far too much on home runs and ultimately was their demise.  Also, the Brewers are a powerful young team known to hit a lot of home runs.   Luckily for the Phils, they lacked in the power department.  The Phillies need to play small ball when they can.  They can't always rely on the two out HRs.

In the MLB, when you lose your first two games, no big deal. 160 to go. In the NBA, you lose your first two games, and there's still 80 left. But in the NFL, your first two games are one eighth of the season. Playoff teams usually lose a maximum of seven, and this year's Jacksonville Jaguars already has two of those losses. Panic time?

Cub fans, please say thank you to any Milwaukee Brewers fans you may know. Their team is struggling just as much as the Cubs right now. It could have been disastrous if Milwaukee would have gone on a winning streak this week as the Cubs were skidding against the Phillies and Astros. The Cubs still have a cushion in the NL Central, but they need to try to get Zambrano and Harden healthy before they make this final playoff push. Don't panic, the Cubs will be fine. They have a solid line-up all the way through the batting order, and even if they are sluggish, they will get enough wins to enter the 08 playoffs. Sorry this post is short and I haven't posted in a while, but I have been working on numerous websites. I will try to put the Cubs blog first from now on, and trust me, I will be much more talkative once these Cubbies get closer to the playoffs.

The former Seattle Super Sonics just unvield their new name and color scheme today.  I have to say that choice was not shocking and still sucks.  They are now known as the Oklahoma City Thunder.  They will be wearing blue, red, and orange.  I just think the name is boring.  Wow, the Thunder.  Then again, I'm not a big fan of team names that don't end in S.  I feel bad for everyone in Seattle, because they stole your team.  Then they took that team and named them something stupid.

What a day for Alfonso Soriano. He came up with a huge 3-run home run in the 7th inning with 2 on and 2 out to put the Cubs up 10 to 7 over the Astros. Soriano also had a single and a double to give him 4 RBI on the day. He touched home twice.

Tribune Co. is selling the Chicago Cubs franchise, along with Wrigley Field, and part of Comcast SportsNet. The Cubs, as well as Wrigley Field, would be the perfect investment for any billionaire; Cubs fans are not going to simply walk away from their favorite team no matter how long it takes for them to win the World Series. True Cubs fans are fans for life....they will continue to fill the seats every single year no matter the outcome of previous seasons. Call it stupid, some critics do, and I don't want to get into all of that right now, especially since I'm one of those "stupid" people that watches the Cubs every day. Anyway, all I'm saying is that Cubs fans are very loyal fans that will provide continually increasing revenue for the new owner.

 HOUSTON DEFEATS CUBS 5-3 ON A CARLOS LEE HOME RUN AS HOUSTON TAKES SERIES

After the Cubs went 8-2 on their latest home stand which made their record at home 19-8, it seems as if they forgot how to play anywhere else.  After losing to the Astros 5-3 and losing the series, the Cubs find themselves 9-11 away from the friendly Confines.  If a team wants to find themselves in the post-season, they need to win the big games on the road.  In a series that had playoff atmosphere, both teams were out to make statements.  The Astros were louder than the Cubs according to Shawn Chaccon, who got the decision in the victory.  "One message the Cubs might get out of it is, 'We're here. We're here to compete. We're going to battle,'" Chacon said. "'It's not the team it was last year. Basically, it's going to be a tough team to beat the whole year.'"

After the Cubs had one of their best records in April in 1969, the start of May is starting to resemble the collapse towards of the season in 1969.  In one their toughest weeks this season, nothing looked pretty as the Cubs just won two out six against there NL Central rivals the Brewers and the Cardinals.  In a week that could have seperated them from everyone else in the divison, the Cubs are now looking up towards the Cardinals who now have a 1 1/2 lead over the Cubs.  Lets quickly recap this horrible week the Cubs have endured.

  Chicago Cubs pitcher Jason Marquis is competing for the final two spots in the starting rotation.  If he does not make the rotation, he would probably end up in bullpen.  In his first start during spring training he went 2 innings, gave up 2 runs, both earned, along with 3 hits.  However, it wasn't his arm that hurt his chances of winning a spot in the rotation.  Rather it was his mouth.  Jason Marquis does not feel he should be competing for a starting job.  He said he signed as a Cub because he thought he would be guaranteed a starter every year.  "That's my ultimate goal, that's how I think I help the team the most. Obviously, we'll see what happens when it's time for them to make their decision," Marquis told reporters.  Marquis was asked how he would feel if he did not make the rotation and ended up in the bullpen. he replied, " As much as I want to be here in Chicago, and I love it, I love the fans and the stadium, I also have a family to worry about, too.  I could take my services elsewhere if that's the case, and I could help another team in that capacity as a starter. My value doesn't lie in the bullpen in my mind."

          It was as recent as 2004 where Roger Clemens was at top of his game.  It was his first year in the National League while playing for the Houston Astros.  He ended up going 18-4 and eventually went on to win the National League Cy Young Award.  How quickly can things can fall from grace.  In December 13, 2007, Clemens name was listed in the Mitchell Report, which alleged that he had used steroids and HGH during the 1998-2001 seasons.  Ever since those allegations, Clemens has been saying he was falsely accused with his lawyer Rusty Hardin backing him up.  Even under oath in front of federal investigators and the Supreme Court, he kept to his story that he never did take HGH or steroids.  What a horrible decision that would later be for him.

I guess it really shouldn't surprise me very much that Eric Gagne was on the list of players who have used steroids or the fact that the Brewers were dumb enough to give him 10 million dollars. I'm trying to figure out which one is dumber. Now it makes you wonder how many of those saves were steroid induced or even if he should get them at all. Did he struggled last year because he wasn't on them? All questions I guess brewer fans will get to see first hand when he takes the mound for them this year.
