Game One

Who is going to win the World Series, the Phillies or the Rays?  The best thing about this series is that I can be fairly neutral as to who wins and just root for some good ole' fashioned baseball.

So far in game one, we got a jim dandy game going, 3-2 Phillies in the 5th.

The Rays come in as a reincarnation of the '69 Mets. The Improbable Dream.  But they field a team of young talented stars of the future.  Pena, Longoria, Upton, Bartlett, Garza, Price and others are just beginning what they hope will be a long career in Major League Baseball.  The Phillies have a little more age to them, although they are a young team as well, just not as young.

I'm hoping the Series goes 7 games so that we can stretch this season out for a little while longer.  Especially considered the dire prospects of the Warriors, Kings, Raiders and 49ers for this year.

We have some local connections in the Series.  Matt Garza, game 7 star and ALCS MVP, is from Fresno State.  JP Howell comes from Jesuit HS in Sacramento.

I'll just sit back and enjoy the Series, root for the local guys and be happy with 7 good, solid ball games. Just wish they didn't play in that dadgum ole dome.

When's the last time that both Bay Area football teams fired their coach in the same season?  What's worse, the slide show the Al Davis used to justify his firing of Lane Kiffin or the leak to the media from 49er headquarters about the impending firing of Dick Nolan?  I think both of them were pretty classless. You expect it from the Raiders, but it is surprising coming from the 49ers.

I hope that Mike Singletary can salvage something out of this season for the 49ers, but I think his back is up against the wall.  After the bye week we should see his influence on what they have left of a season.  There is no hope for the Raiders as long as Al Davis is in charge, it's a tragedy the way he sabatoged this past season.  Where is Bowie Kuhn when you need him? He could fire Al and put someone else in charge of the Raiders.  Then the Greatness that is the Oakland Raiders could at least have a chance of returning.

If Tiger's knee doesn't heal, he can always come back as a caddie.

Still 3-2 Phillies after 6.
