College Fantasy Football Preview -- Minnesota State Screaming Eagles

This team is the only team in the entire league with a team name.  I'm not making this up, the rest of the teams are sorted by their owner/coach, but not the self proclaimed Minnesota State Screaming Eagles.  So, what does this squad have in common with the rest of the state?  A:  They're losers.  Year in and year out.. even when they're close, they really aren't.  Brian managed to win 4 games last year.. in 14.  That means he also managed to lose double digit games which can be difficult to do in fantasy sports.  So, without further ado, lets take a look at this bottom feeder.

QB:  BJ Daniels is a dual threat star in the making down in South Florida.. just ask FSU.  Dayne Crist is the man tabbed to lead the spread offense that Brian Kelly features at Notre Dame and Aaron Murray is the future down in Georgia.  This COULD be a solid position for the Eagles this year.  Daniels can play big given the right matchup and Crist will have every opportunity to produce against a not so tough Notre Dame schedule.  Don't forget what Tony Pike did in that offense the past few seasons.

RB:  Quizz Rodgers is the Darren Sproles of college football right now with more wiggle but not quite as physical.  Rodgers is a dynamo and can really make something out of nothing. The rest of that team, RB wise, however won't be stars this season.  Unless, of course, the Mark Ingram injury is worse than thought.  Trent Richardson is going to run for about 2000 yards and 50 TD's next year and Caleb King should be the man down in Georgia.  Edwin Baker continues to split carries and Michael Dyer could be a manbeast at Auburn.

WR:  James Rodgers, oddly enough, plays on his brothers team in real life and fantasy football.  That may never happen again in league history.  The real headliner here, however, is AJ Green aka Stretch Green with his ability to catch a ball thrown nearly anywhere around him.  People expect big things from Hook 'EM Malcolm Williams and Junior Criner in Arizona.  The Eagles also grabbed a flyer on a Texas Tech WR in Alex Torres.

TE:  Kyle Adams and Orson Charles are the team's TE.  Clearly the Eagles like Georgia players, but Charles does have the chance to be a special college TE.  Adams can catch the ball if Marve can throw it up in Purdue.

K:  Dan Bailey figures to get plenty of scoring opportunities with the Oklahoma State offense.  Rumor has it, Bailey is also a man.

D/ST:  Ol' Mr. Consistent with the defense in Penn State.  Strom Paterno has been fielding a great defense all 48 years he's been the head coach there and this season isn't going to be any different.  They aren't LB U for nothing.

Worst Case:  BJ Daniels hits a sophomore slump and Dayne Crist isn't accurate.  Quizz Rodgers gets hurt and Mark Ingram returns.  AJ Green doesn't have a QB and can't throw to himself and just like that Brian goes from a super sleeper.. to picking #1 overall again next year.  Provided he makes it to the podium in time.

Best Case: BJ Daniels improves from last year's campaign and Crist takes the helm and is efficient for ND.  Quizz puts himself in Heisman consideration, Mark Ingram is hurt for the year, AJ Green wins the nation's best WR award and Penn State isn't scored upon all year.

Overall:  Brian can spot QB's and has a few guys locked in for the future, but that won't help this year.  He'll get a few wins because Quizz will be untouchable, and Green will play 2nd fiddle for the season.  I expect about a .500 season provided the QB's are average or better, but he still needs monster weeks from Rodgers and Green.  At best, he's playing Bill in that mid tier bowl game.

Keywords: AJ Green, BJ Daniels, Dayne Crist, Edwin Baker, James Rodgers, Joe Paterno, Mark Ingram injury, Michael Dyer, Minnesota Vikings, ncaa, nfl draft, Penn State, Quizz Rodgers, Trent Richardson
