So, I don't know if you heard about this new emphasis that college football is placing during games. It's apparently geared towards stopping hitting of "defenseless" players and head-hunting. Well, apparently this rule is awful. I mean, TERRIBLE. In case you weren't watching the Georgia vs. Oklahoma State game this bad rule came into full effect. Georgia S Rashard Jones delivered a picture perfect shoulder first hit into a receiver going for the ball, doing what Jones was taught to do. NOT LET THE OPPONENT CATCH THE BALL. Amazingly, every ref and 30,000 people in the stands threw their flags onto the field. It looked like litter out there, absolute trash.
Do you see anything wrong with that hit? No? Well, either do I. I get so sick of protecting offensive players at all cost. The NFL season drives me insane when it comes to the QB and college is getting that way too. Last year during the Va Tech game there was a guy zooming down the sideline, one step from going out of bounds, imagine being able to run a 4.4 40 at 6'2 215lbs and having a split second of judgement, you are going to push the guy out. Well, apparently, now you have to think about it because that guy got flagged too. This is pathetic. They are football players. FOOTBALL PLAYERS. It is a contact sport; there are going to be violent hits. People are going to get hurt. Everybody knows it going into those pads and stepping out onto the field, you cannot take the ability out of the players like this. Pads and helmets are hi-tech, athletes are bigger, stronger and faster, so either have them play 2-hand touch or accept some of them will get hurt. Throwing flags at good, aggressive football plays is leaving too much to the officials and lets fans get too worked up about calls. This has the potential to marr a great college football season. Just let them play!
