“One real Dawg in the SEC”
HEY DAWG FANS! Saturday October 11th at 3:30pm the Georgia Bulldogs let the Tennessee Vols know that it’s only pleasant between the hedges if you’re a real dog! Although the final score of UGA 26 UT 14 does not really show Georgia’s dominance throughout the game. Georgia controlled the game through the four quarters. Tennessee’s tough defense held them close to in the game coming away with 2 interceptions. Matthew Stafford who came in to this game very efficient only turning the ball over once, threw two picks however not completely his fault. One was just a good read by the defense that saw the screen in the flats coming a mile away and once Stafford made a quick fake to one side and threw to the opposite the defense was waiting on him. The second pick came from a miscommunication with the receiver who should have been running a different route, which would have been an easy 6 points.
Even with throwing two picks, Stafford had his first 300 plus yard game finishing with 310 yards completing a year high of 69.5% of his passes. Tennessee came into this game boasting arguably the best rush defense in the SEC. However Moreno proved otherwise by being the first back this year to rush for more than 100 yards on Tennessee. It was great to see Brandon Southerland back on the field. Like I predicted in my pregame analysis, Southerland made a great impact. Southerland scored first for the Dawgs by pushing a big pile for a 1-yard Touchdown score. Although Southerland did not grab a lot of touches he more than pulls his weight. He grabbed a reception for 10 yards and always has great blocks that stats wont show.
A.J. Green still looks to be a great addition to the Dawg’s receiving corps even counting his out of character dropped pass in the end zone in the 1st quarter. Although A.J. only had 7 catches for 53 yards, what happens when you have a playmaker like Green is the opposing team starts to respect where he is on the field at all times. This opened Mohammed Massaquoi to have a great game. Mo Mass made 5 grabs for 103 yards and a TD. Mo Mass made a 9-yard TD catch late in the 2nd quarter after Stafford pump faked and shot a bullet into the end zone.
This really should have been a blowout but the Dawgs stalled with Tennessee’s hard-nosed defense in the redzone many times and settled for field goals. UGA freshman Blair Walsh kicker contributed 14 points to the win making all 4 of his field goal attempts and 2 extra point attempts. Walsh also looks to be improving on his kickoffs.
A key loss for the Dawgs came when offensive lineman Vince Vance went down and suffered a season ending ACL injury. All and all the Dawgs looked good. We still have some kinks to work out but hopefully we unload on Vandy next week and get some much needed style points. Because apparently the evil empire, ESPN, doesn’t appreciate dawgs, yet favors teams like BYU who plays such a tough schedule to include national powerhouse teams like Idaho State, Bowling Green, and Louisiana Tech. What a joke. Lets Hunker down Dawgs and go get some!
