What's up football fans? Get ready for another high scoring week in Big 12 football, the deepest and most talented football conference in the country. This is my first blog entry, so I thought I would start with my predictions for this upcoming week. Just so ya know, I was born a Nebraska Cornhusker fan, so my favoritism towards the Huskers and disgust towards it's Big 12 competitors may show in my picks.
Here are my predictions for this week, Saturday, November 1st:
Kansas State 31, Kansas 45 - This game features two decent offenses and two terrible defenses. Expect both K-State's Josh Freeman and KU's Todd Reesing to put up big numbers. In the end, the Jayhawks will outscore the Wildcats at home. In a note not related to the game whatsoever, I once heard a rumor that Kansas coach Mark Mangino eats two Subway footlong sandwiches every day for lunch...doesn't look like the Subway diet is workin' for him.
Colorado 20, Texas A&M 27 - Look for the Buffaloes to remain winless on the road in the conference, with help from the 12th man at Kyle Field for the Aggies. Not much excitement for two of the conference's bottom dwellers.
Missouri 45, Baylor 17 - "Chubby" Chase Daniel will continue to put up good numbers against lesser competition in an easy win over Baylor. Too bad for Missouri fans, he doesn't show up for the big games, proof being in a shalacking by Texas and a three interception performance versus Oklahoma State. I will hand it to fatty, he did tear up my Huskers for the second straight year earlier in the season.
Iowa State 10, Oklahoma State 49 - Coming off of a tough loss to Texas last week, the Cowboys will have no problem rebounding versus the Cyclones. A lot of offense will be on display for Okie State, and little defense for Iowa State. In the end, the Cyclones remain winless in the conference.
Nebraska 24, Oklahoma 45 - So you know I'm a Husker fan, but I'm also realistic. I know the 'skers are out matched by the Sooners. However, the Huskers have been turning the corner since the Missouri loss, with two straight wins and a near upset of Texas Tech. First year coach Bo Pelini has the team playing well, and a competitive showing could be possible. In the end, the Sooners have too much talent for Nebraska. This should be an interesting game with the long time ties between the Stoops and Pelini families dating back to their days growing up in Youngstown, Ohio. Look for some classic games between the two long-time friends in the years to come.
This week's Big 12 game of the week: Texas 49, Texas Tech 35 - Texas will be efficient with the short passing game versus the Red Raiders defense. Don't expect Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree to have another trackmeet like they did last week against a terrible Kansas defense. In the end, Texas passes another tough test on their way to the National Championship game.
We'll check in early next week to see if my predictions pan out. Thanks for reading!
